History from Strawberry Pt Library Collection.
William Lang Son of Bickford ALang 2nd
William Lang was born and reared on a farm in the old Granite State, and as a young man went to Pennsylvania where he engaged in teaching school. He had secured a good education and gained much knowledge from books which he read by the light of pine knots. He was married in Penn to Miss Abrilla Van Swearign, a native of Penn., her family being originally from Maryland. The year 1823 witnessed their emigration to Ohio. They settled on the Western reserve in Lorain Co., when the city of Cleveland was but a small village. Mr Lang secured land from the Government and in the midst of the forest developed a farm on which he made his home for many years. His wife died when his son Nicholas was a lad of fifteen. In 1855 he came to Iowa, locating in Putnum Twp., Fayette, Co., At the age of 94 he went to live with his son John in Wasioja, Minn. He took a very active part in church work, having been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church from early life. His second marriage was to Sybil Andress Squires, a widow, and the mother of several children.

In his 81st year, Willism Lang wrote: "I lived with my good grandfather, Bickford Lang Sr. I have often heard him speak of his uncle that was a sailor and visited them often at Greenland where he was a boy. I shall call his name Thomas Sr.
